• Outline tasks like identifying potential leaders, managing transitions, and assessing financial needs.2. Define Leadership Transition Profiles• Create detailed profiles for the executive director and case manager roles, focusing on required skills and values.
• Highlight attributes like community advocacy and direct service experience.3. Secure Funding for Key Roles• Develop a funding plan for staffing these roles.
• Prioritize leadership funding in grant applications and donor communications.
• Consider part-time or volunteer options until funding stabilizes.4. Identify and Prepare Interim and Future Leaders• Assess internal and external talent, including potential interim leaders and candidates from the nonprofit sector.
• Document key processes and develop a guide for day-to-day operations.
• Encourage the executive director to mentor potential future leaders.5. Strengthen the Board• Recruit board members with skills in finance, HR, and fundraising to support transition planning.
• Set achievable fundraising goals for each board member to build financial resilience.
• Form board committees for core functions (e.g., fundraising, governance) to share responsibilities.6. Communicate the Plan to Stakeholders• Brief major donors, partners, and staff on the transition plan to maintain confidence and continuity.7.
